below I have listed a few key points to help you quote your system:-

  • I recommend one PIR per downstairs room.
  • Alarming the upstairs is a nice to have but is normally just the landing.
  • If you have a single story extension to the rear you may wish to protect the upstairs room above it.
  • The control panel needs to be installed close to either a mains plug socket or your fuse box / consumer unit.

Vibration detector

Vibration sensors detect vibration on a door or window, they can detect an attempted breakin but are more expensive than PIR's.Some rooms may have more than one window , some larger windows require two detectors.


Door contact

Door contacts are inexpensive but are usually just used on your front door to begin the entry / exit timer,they are not able to detect a door being attacked or glass being smashed.
